Sex addiction is a controversial term, at least in the mental health community, where the term “sexual compulsion” is often preferred. The essence of the phenomenon is the persistence of sexual behavior despite negative consequences the individual finds unacceptable. The sexual behavior may consist of imagery, fantasy, pornography use or production, manual stimulation by or of others, oral stimulation of or by others, vaginal/anal penetration, etc. Sex addiction does not involve anything illegal for our purposes here.
