Group Therapy for Sexually Abused Men

When boys are sexually abused, the men they become often carry with them a variety of symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, sexual avoidance or compulsivity, difficulty trusting others, etc.  However, men are often reluctant to talk about their feelings, especially about being a victim.  This leaves them feeling isolated and alone.  It is common for survivors to blame themselves or feel shame about their abuse.

By providing a safe place to open up, individual psychotherapy is an excellent first step in healing.  A natural next step is opening up to others, but the stigma that can be attached to the victim of molestation can make that step insurmountable.  Group therapy with men who share a similar history is an ideal middle step for additional healing of deep pain and shame, and for the discovery of inner strength and outer resources.  The therapy group is thus designed for men who have been in, or are currently in, individual psychotherapy regarding their abuse, and who have not abused a child themselves.

I am glad to answer any questions you have about the group.  If you are interested in being in the group, email me at [email protected] or call me at (949) 706-0707 and I will arrange a complimentary individual screening interview with you to determine if the group is right for you.
